Flower Child

Oh how I love flowers. Walking in the grass barefoot instantly brightens my day.
Nature's beauty makes me a happy girl.
Sometimes when I'm feeling a little down all I want is a flower. I can't just ask for a flowers..
But I can go looking!
"We often forget that we are nature.
Nature is not something separate from us.
So when we say that we have lost our connection to nature.
What we are really saying is
We've lost the connection to ourselves."
~Andy Goldsworthy

I know.. so many pictures! I'm not sorry though. Flowers cheer me up, I'm positive they cheer you up as well. These pictures are for you.
I hope they brighten your day. I hope they make you smile.
Your smile brightens up the room.

On another note...

Tomorrow 5 new hats will be listed in my shop!
These really are my favorite hats.
They remind me of flowers, laughter and skipping rocks!

Nerd Alert!

I'm a little bit of a nerd..

I bet you didn't know that..

I wear glasses!
And I have curly crazy hair.
(This picture doesn't really show it well.)
I also have a bad habit of biting my lower lip when I'm nervous or upset.. or even bored!
Look closely.. you can totally tell!
Any advice on how to quit?!

I'm madly in love with The Beatles.

If I was alive back then.. I would be one of those screaming girls. I know it. I'm sooo not ashamed.
I love boxes! Jewelry boxes,  treasure chests, candy boxes. I love them all!
I even have boxes for my boxes.
I wear this cute thing when I sleep or knit.
Knitting and crocheting so much has really given me wrist problems!
I used to have to wear a brace when I was younger too.
(Via Google)
I love Star Wars. I surprised myself and Taylor with my knowledge about Star Wars.
He thinks I'm a total geek. I don't mind. I'm totally having a Star Wars marathon.. Tonight!
I just love journals. I have oh so many.
I have a journal for ideas, poetry, dreams, recipes, thoughts, sketch books and the list goes on.
I have a journal for everything. I just love them.
(See that top one? That one's been with me since I was 16! It's full of my dreams since then!)
(Via Google)
I absolutely love musicals. I saw Wicked with my mom on Broadway. We won front row seats!
I used to act and sing when I was younger.
You didn't know that!
 (Via Google)
I have to watch either Mamma Mia or Hairspray once a week, at least.
Not joking.
I love jewelry. I have so much. Natural stones are my favorite. This beautiful aventurine ring is from LoveErica, one of my favorite girls of Etsy. Please go check out her shop and blog.
You will not be disappointed. I promise.

My dad is a Goldsmith so he works with stones and crystals a lot.
I have developed a huge love for them as well as a huge collection.
We used to go to crystal and rock shows together. I don't think he realized just how much I enjoyed that.
This is only tip of the nerd iceberg that I am.
I just love to be silly and goofy.

So.. do you have any nerdy confessions?

Just wait until August

It was Sunday, Taylor's only day off. I was craving adventure.

I had plans.

My plans don't really count as plans..

My plan was: Go on an adventure.

I didn't know where we would go or anything.
Sunday morning we woke up to rain, thunder and lightning. I expected it to let up. I went out onto the balcony and asked politely for the rain to stop.
(I was planning on taking photos of my new hats that day too.)
Taylor saw that I was disappointed, he insisted that we go out anyways. Driving on the freeway was intense. We saw cars pulled over under the bridges. Most cars were going 25 miles an hour on the freeway. We could barely see anything.
The rain suddenly let up. It was then 101 degrees.
101 degrees and humid.
Very humid. My hair was curling like crazy. It was hard to breathe.
My mom called later and asked how my day was and what I did.
I explained the weather.
I think she laughed and said,
"Just wait until August."

Awesome.

Take Note

Sometimes you don't want to take a step backward. You don't want to feel like you are loosing or going in the wrong direction. Sometimes it really is for the best, it helps you see things from a distance, it helps you understand things. It's like looking at a painting up close and having no idea what the painting is.. then taking a few steps back.. to understand what all the little dots and splotches are.
Sometimes stepping back for a moment makes the path become clear again.

New Style

I took a few days off from painting to make some new hats.
I must say I am quite pleased with the new style.

The yarn is pliable so you can have the point pointing down, or curled up.
I think I will be making these in many different colors.
I just love slouchy beanies and pixie hats. It feels good to have my favorites combined into one.
As much as I would like pixie hats to be worn by boys.. I don't think it will happen often.
I'm trying to make more unisex hats.. and I'm quite excited about this one.
This is Taylor, modeling the new Dino Hat.
He wasn't able to do any dinosaur faces when I was photographing him...
I just think he was being camera shy or something.
So we switched places and I showed him how a pro dinosaur looks.
He just asked if I was trying to be a sexy dinosaur.
So maybe the two of us can't model..
Good thing we have Mowgli.
He almost looks like a real panda huh?
Is that a monkey!? Oh.. no just a chihuahua in a monkey hat.
This style isn't really new.. but the color is. It's a beautiful gold color with red flecks.

Yesterday was not the best day for pictures.
It rained all day like a monsoon.
As soon the rain let up it was 99 degrees and humid.
Just look at my hair!

Dear Dad,

You are the hardest person to shop for. I've been pondering months ahead on what to get for you.. and now it's Father's day and I am still unsure. This is the second Father's I've missed, and I don't like that. I can't give you a hug and say thank you in person. I can't be there for when mom makes you breakfast. I can't hand you any gift and watch you open it. The only thing I can do for now (other than call you in a few hours) is publicly announce, (well as "public" as this blog is)

I love you dad.
You are the greatest dad. Family has always been first and you always treat mom so well.  I love seeing that. You are a wonderful example to me. I'm so glad I inherited your artistic abilities. Thank you for teaching me how to draw when I was really young. Thank you for supporting me in all my artistic adventures.  (I had so many; flute playing, acting and painting.) You are always serving others and doing good. I want to be like you. Thanks for calling me when you think I'm lonely. Thanks for understanding me when I just don't know what to say. I miss you so much.

Fear not, this has nothing to do with anything in my life. I just thought it was so cute.
I have the prettiest family. (and the silliest brother.)

Happy Father's Day to all you dad's out there!
And especially my dad.
I love you!
